The Beauty of Unscripted Moments: Why the Best Photos Aren't Posed

When I was a young girl I used to rip pages out of Elle magazine and plaster them to my walls. All of the models always looked so polished, posed, and perfect. I still thing imagery like this has its own place in the world, but I realize now that the perfection I was staring at was actually a lot of professional talent mixed with a lot of photoshop.

Fast forward and most all of us understand that real life is messy, beautiful, and far from scripted. And the most powerful images? They come from the moments in between. The way your fingers instinctively find each other. The way laughter spills out when you’re caught off guard. The quiet, unscripted seconds that tell the real story.

The Truth About Perfect Photos

What Makes a Photo Truly Meaningful?

When you look back at your photos, I don’t want you to just see yourself—I want you to feel something. To remember what it was like to be in that exact moment, surrounded by love from your family, or movement, or the kind of beauty that doesn’t need to be staged.

Some of my favorite moments to capture:
✅ The tear slipping down your dad’s cheek as he walks you down the aisle.
✅ The way your baby (no matter how old) instinctively reaches for your hand.
✅ The deep breath you take, eyes closed, before stepping into a new chapter.

These moments don’t need to be forced. They happen naturally, and my job is to notice them so you can hold onto them forever.

My Approach: Guided, But Never Forced

I know being in front of the camera can feel intimidating. There is nothing like trying to look your best, figure out what to do with your hands and look into a black box. I get it—I’ve been on the other side, too. That’s why I don’t just place you in a pose and tell you to smile. Instead, I guide you through natural movement and prompts that make you notice the camera a little less.

Maybe that means twirling your partner under golden light, or simply holding hands and taking a breath together. Maybe it’s wrapping your child in a hug or letting yourself laugh until you can’t breathe. Whatever it is, I’ll be there—not directing, but gently guiding—so you feel like yourself.
